In this video, I show you hoot make chibi dos for Girl’s Day, or Hinamatsuri, which is March 3 in Japan.
According to Wikipedia, Hinamatsuri (雛祭り), also called Doll’s Day or Girls’ Day, is celebrated each year on March 3 in Japan. Platforms covered with a red carpet are used to display a set of ornamental dolls (雛人形 hina-ningyō) representing the Emperor, Empress, their court and attendants as well as furniture and other accessories used by the Emperor and Empress. Formerly, people believed the dolls possessed the power to contain bad spirits. Families generally start to display the dolls in February and take them down immediately after the festival. Superstition says that leaving the dolls past March 4 will result in a late marriage for the daughter.
In the supermarkets and shopping malls you will find various sets of Emperor and Empress dolls in a non traditional, kawaii form. I decided to make my own!
I had fun editing this movie into a story and I hope you enjoy it! I made up the story myself. It has no factual basis so I hope I haven’t offended anyone.
Basic overview of the instructions:
-Start out by making a 4 round balls. You will need 2 peach colored balls, for the heads. Use about 2 grams per ball. Set aside a little bit of wool for attaching the pieces together in each color (peach, light pink, and blue). Next, make a light pink and a light blue ball for the body.

-Next make the hair. The hair for the Emperor doll is rounder, while the hair for the Empress doll is more oval shaped and slightly larger than the Emperor’s hair. Attach the hair to the head.
-Add a face – mouth, eyes, and rosy cheeks.
-Attach the head to the body.
-Add the details – the belts and the Empress’s gold dot accessory.
I hope you enjoy this tutorial! Please let me know in the comments if you would like to see more chibis and if you enjoy this cinematic format! I’m experimenting with a new way of editing that is more fun for me than just making purely instructional videos. I hope you don’t mind that I didn’t show every single thing step by step.
