Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite stories! Not necessarily for the story itself – but I like the characters. I’ve been wanting to do a needle felted set or scene, so I decided to do Alice, the White Rabbit, and the Cheshire cat. This set was inspired by a needle felting kit that I saw in a Japanese craft store by the brand Mille.
I often see needle felting kits that consist of wool and some instructions, and I feel that for me this is a waste because most of time time I have all the colors on hand. Also, I don’t like to follow the directions in Japanese needle felting kits because I’m too lazy to read the directions. It takes major effort for me to read Japanese and figure out all that kanji! Japanese is really difficult for me to learn for some reason! Why are there so many different alphabets? There 3 to be exact, and one consists of about 1000+ jouyou kanji characters :(. And I’m one of those people who likes to read directions for everything. However, in this case I would rather just make my own design instead of spending time translating the directions!
Here is my Cheshire Cat Needle Felting Tutorial! The actual Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland can be a little spooky, so I tried to make my version kawaii by giving it big eyes and a cute smile. There are a lot of parts to it so it’s a bit time consuming.
